Hi, my full name is Deborah - but my dad always called me deb. My dad died nearly 5 years ago and was the driving force behind me setting up 'flowersbydeb'.
To cut a long story short...... I had a good steady job which I had been in for 30 years and whilst I tried to change roles & gain promotions to satisfy my need for developmental growth, the job was always that.. just a job, never a passion or a chosen path.
When my dad died, my world fell apart and all I could feel was that I was a walking waste of organs that somebody else could make use of. I had no purpose in my life and no desire to carry on.
However, through a mix of work related counselling and Remploy mental health sessions, I learnt that I did have a purpose and that I could help others who's worlds had also fell apart in the same way as mine.
This was in the form of grave and funeral flowers - My brother had died 15 years earlier and I had been making arrangements and tributes for his grave ever since. This had been borne out of frustration when florists would make fabulous arrangements and all I wanted to do was cry as they had not used a particular flower I had asked for (due to it's significant meaning) or had used the wrong shade (usually pink/lilac rather than blue/lilac and my brother was a 27 year old male who was not a pink sort of guy).
I figured that I would be best placed to help grieving people as I understood exactly how they felt.
I was also frustrated that every time I put fresh flowers on my dad & brothers headstone - the rabbits would eat them and at that time the artificial flowers available probably could have been see from outta space! so I certainly don't think they were of the quality that people wondering are they real or not.
So in answer to my questions above - I am deb - a 50 year old woman with 20 years of funeral flower experience and with regards to 'what type of flowers' - I make fresh funeral tributes and realistic artificial graveflowers.
