About flowersbydeb

I have always loved flower arranging and in the 80's dabbled with dried flowers - baskets, swags, you name it, it had dried flowers in it!  However, my passion was really ignited after the loss of my brother and then dad.

Frustrated when the florists used 'the wrong shade of purple' or the 'wrong flowers', I set about making my own grave flowers / tributes for my brother (Hearts, Teardrops, Posies etc) and then when my dad died in 2019, I knew I had to make his coffin spray as the last thing I could do for him.

I have since moved into the realm of artificial flowers after trying in vein to find suitable ones that didn't blow away in the wind or could be seen from outer space as they were that bright.  I started making grave flower arrangements and was soon asked by other people to make flowers for their loved one's graves too.

I love learning and I'm constantly watching flower videos on you tube (good ones to look out for are:

Flowerjoos (John MacDonald)  Kaysflowerschool (Janette & Deidre) & Jenny T Floristry.

In terms of professional floristry training - I have now completed City & Guilds Level 2 Floristry Certificate (passed with Merit) & 6 week Wedding Course - both classroom based courses at Southport College and progressed those studies at Hugh Baird college where I studied City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry at Hugh Baird College (which I passed with Distinction* and a overall score of 46/50).  I am currently progressing my studies on City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma and have been given a target/estimated grade of Distinction.

As part of the Technical courses, I have committed to working 150 hours within the floral industry and have been extremely lucky in securing my placement of choice.

In addition to the traditional classroom based learning and on-the-job training, I have also successfully completed Modules 1 & 2 with Kaysflowerschool (Modules 3 & 4 to go to finish the professional program and Module 5 if I would like to learn more about sustainable floristry - love their training - the banter with Janette & Deidre is good and makes the courses enjoyable - but be warned - Janette is a no push over! she is a professional florist who expects high standards and will push you to achieve your best which is why I like her.)

From the business side, I have been lucky enough to embark upon fantastic working relationships with Chris & Marcus of Marcus Memorials and I am their sole supplier of floral arrangements/grave flowers. [If you are local to Ainsdale, why not call in and see my flowers on their fabulous headstones.], John & Kay in Crosby Memorials, another small family business based in Crosby and serving the Sefton Area and Jemma of Jenkins/Welsby Memorials in Bootle (opposite Bootle Cemetery  and Allerton [again - why not pop in and see my designs displayed on their fabulous memorial stones]

Finally, I have expanded my offerings to encompass Fresh Funeral Tributes & Memorial items which can be selected from the dropdown menu in the shop

Quality Control - family business

Lorreen - Mum

Finance & Quality Control

Mum is a perfectionist, so was the ideal candidate for quality control.  If an arrangement or design doesn't get the thumbs up then it has to be scrapped or remade.

Mum also reigns me in when I get carried away with the amazing variety of realistic artificial flowers now available.

Inspiration

I created 'flowersbydeb' in honour of my dad as he always loved the flowers and floral tributes that I made for my Gary and he was so proud of my work and his family x
